Ann E. (Hennessey) Carr, age 77, of Beverly, died March 20, 2009 in Beverly Hospital following a long illness. She and her husband Bob had shared 58 years of marriage.



She was born in Salem, the daughter of the late David V. and Katherine A (Dougherty) Hennessey. While in high school she had worked part-time for New England Telephone and following her graduation from St. James High School in the Class of 1949, she became a full time employee. Not long after she and her husband met and married and began a family.



A stay at home mother for several years, she returned to work writing the Ryal Side column for the Beverly Times as well as many feature articles until becoming the Classified Advertising Manager for their combined Beverly, Peabody, Gloucester and Newburyport newspapers. She later worked in the advertising department of the South Middlesex Daily News in Framingham until returning to school at North Shore Community College.



Mrs. Carr completed her degree in Mental Health and became a counselor for Family and Life Learning in Danvers. During her illness, Mrs. Carr gave personal growth counseling from her home.



In addition to her husband she is survived by three sons Robert S. Carr and his wife Debra of Beverly, Richard D. Carr and his wife Sandra of Chico, CA and Christopher J. Carr and his wife Cheryl of Danvers; a daughter Nancyellen Guzzardi of Atkinson, NH; a sister Rita Bohanon of Salem; a brother David J. Hennessey of Ipswich; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.



She was predeceased by a sister Marie B. Landers and a son in law Robert Guzzardi.



Her funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. in St. James Church, 161 Federal St., Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Monday from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Interment will be in Central Cemetery, Beverly. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in her name to the Sjogren's Syndrome Foundation, 6707 Democracy Blvd, Suite 325, Bethesda, MA 20817.
