Ann Carbone, 88, a lifelong Salem resident passed away unexpectedly in her home on Friday Feb. 3rd. Ms. Carbone was born in Salem the daughter of the late former Superintendent of schools, Peter F. Carbone Sr and the late Mary C (Gilmartin) Carbone. She attended Salem High School and later graduated from Boston University.
In her younger years she enjoyed traveling the world including a trip to Cuba just days prior to the Bay of Pigs. Before retiring Ms. Carbone worked in government services at the Thomas O'Neil Federal Building in Boston.
An avid supporter of the Arts, she enjoyed the symphony, plays, and musicals in both Boston and New York. Maria's restaurant in Salem was a favorite "hang-out" for Ann where she developed many friendships with the owners and patrons.
Ms Carbone was the lifelong friend of the late Elayne M. Hart and became a lifelong friend to Mrs. Hart's children and grandchildren attending birthdays, graduations, and holidays. Mrs. Hart's family will truly miss Ann at the family gatherings. Ms Carbone was predeceased by her brother John C. Carbone and brother Dr. Peter F. Carbone. She is survived by her first cousin Annette Schultz and family of Moretown Vt and numerous cousins. The family would also like to acknowledge Ann's neighbors, Jose' and Vienka Diaz who assisted Ann throughout the years.
Ann's service will begin at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., Salem at on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a graveside service at Greenlawn Cemetery, Orne St, Salem at 11:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
