Marblehead and Somerville

Angelo E."Leno" Bussolari, age 94 of Marblehead, formerly of Somerville, died September 23, 2008 after a short illness. He was the beloved husband of Rita with whom he had shared 63 years of marriage.

Born in Somerville, where he resided until two years ago, he was the son of the late Gaetano and Stella (Comsati) Bussolari.

When he was a boy, Mr. Bussolari would get up early at 4:00 A.M. and help the local milk man with his deliveries before going to school. As a young man, Mr. Bussolari served as a Merchant Seaman for two years, and then worked as an iron worker until he joined the Seabees in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska for one year during World War II. He then transferred into the regular Navy for the remainder of World War II.

He worked at West End Iron Works in Cambridge before and after World War II until his retirement at the age of 68. He was the fourth oldest member of the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental, and Reinforcing Iron Workers.

Always ready to help anyone, he enjoyed vegetable gardening, puttering around his home and yard, and reading. He loved his family, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and will be missed by all who knew him.

He and four of his five brothers, who served in World War II, were recently honored in Somerville when the corner of Ibbetson St and Lowell St was dedicated as "Bussolari Brothers Square."

He is survived by three children Leonard P. Bussolari and his wife Caren of Marblehead, David A. Bussolari and his wife Carolyn of Danvers and Lynda M. Bussolari of Woodstock, GA; his grandchildren Amy Bussolari Phillips and her husband William of Rockaway, NJ, Jean Marie Bussolari of Danvers, Mark Bussolari of Danvers, Cyndi Crivello of Chicago, IL and Peter and his wife Erica of Woodstock, GA; his great grandchildren Sarah Crivello of Chicago, IL, and Adam Crivello and Madison Crivello of Woodstock, GA; two brothers Quinto Bussolari and his wife Tena of Somerville and Albert Bussolari of Chelsea; a sister Gloria Resmini and her husband Peter of Medford and several nieces and nephews.
