Obituary

Alice Tompkins passed away June 7 at the Lafayette Nursing Home in Marblehead. Alice was born in Marblehead November 25, 1910 she was the beloved wife of the late Judson P. Tompkins and daughter of the late Michael and Elizabeth McGill. Alice was the sister of the late Edward McGill, the late Margaret Petkewich and the late Elizabeth McKinnon. She graduated Marblehead high school and Burdette College. For a number of years she worked at the Marblehead Messenger. After marriage she volunteered for many years at Salem Hospital and the American Red Cross. In later years she was a constant volunteer at the Marblehead Thrift Shop. Since the death of Judson in 1994 Alice lived at Brighton Gardens and Brightview in Danvers. She had many friends at both homes. In the last two weeks of her life, she joined her entire family in warm family gatherings. On her 105th birthday she was presented the Boston Post Cane from the Marblehead board of selectman. This cane is given to the oldest resident in Marblehead. She proudly showed the selectman's award on her wall at The Lafayette. Alice lived a long life in her beloved Marblehead and died a happy person.

Alice is survived by her daughter Janice Flanigan Rand and her son Stephen P. Tompkins and his wife Carol. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Michael Tompkins and his wife Beth; Tom Tompkins and his wife Sarah; Karen Caulfield and her husband Keith; Linda Flanigan and her husband Charles Harlan; Lee Webber and her husband Jonathon; Tracey Zompetti and her husband Marco; and Sheila Flanigan. As well as her great-grandchildren Coles B. Tompkins; Caroline Tompkins; Harrison Caulfield; Sarah Caulfield; Jane Tompkins; Claire Tompkins; Max Webber; Jacob Webber and Karena Webber.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday June 14, 2016 at 10AM at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church 80 Atlantic Avenue Marblehead, MA. Friends and Family are warmly invited to attend. Internment will take place after Mass at Waterside Cemetery on West Shore Drive in Marblehead.
