Alice A. (Hennessey) Callahan, age 90, passed away in her home on April 14, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Arthur C. Callahan with whom she shared over 50 years of marriage.
Alice was born, raised, and educated in Salem where she graduated from Salem High School. She was head cheerleader and captain of the girls' basketball team. After high school she went to work at New England Telephone where she was a switchboard operator until starting her family. After raising her family, she went back to work at GTE Sylvania until her retirement. She was an avid golfer and bowler and won many trophies and championships. Alice was a devoted fan of the New England Patriots, the Boston Red Sox and the Boston Bruins and enjoyed spending time with her friends and family.
Alice is survived by her daughter Margaret Yonis and her husband Dean of Topsfield and her son Chuck Callahan and his wife Ann of Danvers. She also leaves her grandson James Yonis, and granddaughters Alecia Yonis and Sam Callahan, as well as 2 great grandsons Julian Yonis and Mason Alley and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her visiting hours on Thursday, April 21, from 4pm to 8pm at Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. (corner of North St), Salem, MA 01970. A funeral service will be held at St. Thomas Church, 1 Margin St. Peabody on Friday, April 22, 2016 at 10am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to All Care Hospice, 210 Market St. Lynn, MA 01901.
