May 29, 1928 – April 22, 2014
Aleyes "Al" Markarian, age 85, loving husband of Geraldine (Lynch) Markarian of Salem, died at the Essex Park Nursing Home in Beverly early Tuesday morning April 22, 2014 following a long illness. Born in Peabody the son of the late David and Eva (Arakelian) Markarian he attended local schools. Mr. Markarian attended Peabody High School until he could join the United States Army and was discharged during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge he worked in local tanneries in Peabody as well as a short order cook. He later worked at the US Postal Service for many years until his retirement. He was an avid golfer and longtime member of the A.O.H. Division 18 in Salem.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Lisa Markarian of Salem and her boyfriend John Frassica of East Boston and Laura Markarian of Salem, several nieces Pamela Vartigan Tremblay and her husband Gerry of Tewksbury, Kathleen and Stephen Kelly of Burlington, MA and Susan and Steven Butler of Stoneham and his great nieces and nephews Joey, Andrew, Jonathan, Crystal, Shannon and Justin. He was predeceased by twin brother Solomon, and sister Alice Vartigan. His funeral will be held on Friday, April 25, 2014 at 10:30 A.M in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St, Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
