Alexandros Georgiadis, age 75 of Lynn died Sunday October 4, 2009 in Massachusetts General Hospital following a two year battle with lung cancer.
Born in Greece the son of the late Vassilios and Anna (Siminelakis) Georgiadis, his family moved to Argentina when he was a teenager. He was employed as a mechanical engineer in the Greek merchant marine. Mr. Georgiadis sailed the world aboard both oil and cargo ships for over 30 years. He enjoyed sharing stories of his travels with his family and friends.
Upon his retirement he settled in Lynn to be close his loving family which he cherished. He also continued to enjoy the ocean boating and fishing from Beverly aboard his boat "Anna" which he had named in honor of his mother.
Mr. Georgiadis is survived by two sisters Eva Kastrinakis of Lynn and Rosita Georgiades of Beverly; his nieces and nephews Mariana Kastrinakis, MD and her husband Peter Merrill of Bethesda, MD, Irene Kastrinakis and her husband Kosta Prentakis of Middleton, Maria H.A. Lurantos and her husband Albert Kalustian, MD of Manchester by the Sea, Lorena Bernard and her husband Cedric, of Tours, France and Juan Alejandro Poli of Buenos Aires, Argentina; his dear friend Tatyana Wagner of Lynn and his extended family in Greece.
He was predeceased by two sisters Mania Georgiadis and Olga Georgiadis.
Private funeral services are under the direction of the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., Salem.
