Salem….
Albin L. "Chick" Zegarowski, age 89 of Salem, died Saturday September 27, in the Chelsea Soldier's Home following a long illness. He was the husband of the late Gladys (Hobbs) Zegarowski with whom he had shared 51 years of marriage.
Born in Salem the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Szelgia) Zygarowski, he was educated in Salem schools. Following his graduation from Salem High School, Mr. Zegarowski joined the United States Coast Guard in 1939, and served during World War II. He reenlisted at the end of his tour of duty in 1945 and was stationed at Winter Island, Salem until being discharged in 1948.
Mr. Zegarowski then became a letter carrier in Salem's Business District for many years until his retirement. He also worked nights with his wife's family at E.W. Hobbs, Inc. for several years.
An avid football fan, he was an avid reader enjoying the historical accounts of World War II and also liked listening to music form that era. He was often seen walking in the Willows and visiting Winters Island.
Mr. Zegarowski is survived by two children Jan Dube of Ipswich and Kenneth and his wife Patricia Zegarowski of Salem; five grandchildren Heather Small, Farrah Dube-Parente, Zechariah, Zeban and Zara Zegarowski; 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services are under the direction of the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., Salem.
