Obituary

Albano "Al" Quadros, longtime union organizer for the AFL-CIO Leather Workers Union Local 21, age 89, husband of the late Janice A. (Scullin) Quadros died Friday evening December 11, 2009 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Peabody the son of the late Matthew and Helen (D'Sousa) Quadros, he was raised on Driscoll St where he enjoyed his neighborhood and a large group of friends. Mr. Quadros had attended the Carol school and after completing his education at Peabody High School he was employed at Duffy Leather Company. Shortly after the outbreak of World War II he joined the United States Army Artillery serving in the Pacific theater of operation mostly in New Guinea.

Honorably discharged as a Sergeant, Mr. Quadros returned to the leather industry until becoming employed by Pioneer Plastic in the mid 1950's and also serving as Union Steward. As his skills and knowledge in the union developed, Mr. Quadros became a Union Organizer for the AFL-CIO Leather Workers Union Local 21 in Peabody and proudly spent many years helping to support the needs of the leather workers in the greater Peabody area.

A natural athlete he enjoyed sports and was passionate about candlepin bowling competing in leather company leagues. For several ears he held the "High Single" and "High Triple" in the 1950's at Sunnyside Lanes in Peabody. In the 1960's he began playing golf and discovered he had a natural talent which became a passion he enjoyed for years.

Most important in his life was his family. Mr. Quadros enjoyed spending time being with his grandchildren and great grandchildren supporting all of their activities. He was a good man who was non judgmental, supporting the needs of others and was honored to be involved in his community.

He is survived by two children Robert and his wife Pat Quadros of Salem and Elizabeth "Betty" Quadros and her husband Paul Haley of Orleans; six grandchildren Denise Nosari, Lydia Sobocinski, John Nutting, Matthew Nutting, Heather Stubbs and Catherine Haley; seven great grandchildren Colin and Chase Nosari, Emma, Jack and Christopher Sobocinski, Christopher Nutting and Haley Jean Guilmette and longtime friend and companion of Mary MacLean.

He was predeceased by two brothers John and James Quadros and two sisters Eugenia Cash and Marie Williams.

His funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 9:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 260 North St., Salem (on the Salem Peabody line). Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Tues from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. in the funeral home. Interment will be in Central Cemetery, Beverly.
