Mr. A. Ralph Cyr, 90, passed away on Thursday, May 8th, 2008 peacefully at Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Helen K. (Sullivan) Cyr. Ralph was born in Salem, MA on October 13, 1917, the son of the late Omer and Mary (Cassidy) Cyr.
Ralph was presented with an award for saving the daughter of Mayor and Mrs. George Bates in May of 1933. He was in the U.S. Navy as a Motor Machinist Mate1st Class in WW II where he served in the Mediterranean aboard the PT Boats 306 and 313.
He was employed as the Superintendent of the Central Motor Equipment for the City of Salem for 36 years until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of the Athletic Club of Salem, The Young Men's Temperance Society and the Ancient Order of Hibernians in Salem, as well as a member of the Lafayette Club.
Ralph was and avid Baseball fan, and an active member of the Box Sox Club. He attended every World Series for 32 years in a row. Another special time for Ralph and Helen were the winters they spent with their friends in Marco Island, Florida.
Ralph is survived by two daughters, Nancy Parisien and her husband James of Salem, and Marsha Conway and her longtime partner Larry Baccari of Salem. He is also survived by a sister, Doris Buttner and her husband Bill of Salem and a brother Karl "Mike" Cyr and his wife Barbara of Peabody. Especially dear to his heart were his grandchildren James "Jay" Parisien Jr., Jon R. Parisien and his wife Tracey, Mike P. Conway and Erin Conway and his great grandchildren Jon, Jessica, Jaclyn and Jake Parisien, and Noah and Madison Conway
He was predeceased by his brother Lawrence "Luke" Cyr, sister Mary Vanne, and granddaughter in Law Kathy Parisien
His funeral will be held on Saturday, May 10 at 8:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North ST) Salem, A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anne Church, Jefferson Ave., Salem, MA, at 9:00 on Saturday, Visiting hours will be Friday 4-8 at Murphy Funeral Home. Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery Salem.
